Day 1 - Broughton Astley to Dumfries

We had a lunch break at Knutsford where we looked around the town and walked through the grounds of Tatton Park.  Although National Trust, it is financed by East Cheshire Council and they charge £9.50 to take a car in.  Walking in is free but it is a 2 mile walk to the house and gardens.  This would be a good option if spending a full day here but we only had a couple of hours.  There are a lot of deer in the park and it was possible to get very close to them.  We walked to Tatton Mere, the largest lake on the estate and sat watching the sailing boats before continuing our journey.

Stop no 2 was at Penrith.  We havent been here before.  It was just on 4pm when we arrived and most of the shops were closed but there werent many people about and we had a pleasant walk around the town.

We then continued to our overnight stop at the Premier Inn Dumfries getting an impressive 76.7 miles per gallon over 260 miles.  Its been very warm all day and thunderstorms are forecast overnight.
